I'm going to make more dedicated time to ride ultras. Plain and simple.
I ride enough hours and miles in the dead of winter to keep my base miles up and my riding style in the winter is to have all my gear with me, for overnights and for when the brown stuff hits the twirly thing.
So, hosting an ultra is great but riding in one, or a few each season should be a no-brainer. It's been my go-to type of event for the past few years but this year it just didn't work out with timing and life but that's no excuse.
I recently hosted the Wendigo Fatbike Ultra for the second time. It was great. People signed up, trained and planned accordingly and all went well on event day.
They pushed themselves mentally and physically and finished at a local brewery. They finished tired, battered and beaten, but that's what it's all about. Once finished, they were willing to put some beers back and some grub too, chat about the ride, plan for the drive and sleep really that night. Some rode 50km, some 100km and only few rode 130km.
I love it. I love seeing people push themselves to the point of no return. Where commitment is no longer judged by the miles that lie ahead but by the miles that sit behind you. Ride more.
